Build Strong

Construction Phase

Construction is where the building truly takes shape. Alten prepares the site by clearing existing structures, grading and prepping the building pad and placing utilities. After the site is prepared, the foundation is laid, reinforcements placed and concrete poured to create the base upon which your building will rest.

The structure itself begins to grow as the steel skeleton of the building is erected. Once the bones of the building are in place, the rest of the building is fleshed out, including interior construction and finished materials.

At each stage, we coordinate our own workers and trade contractors as well as the arrival of building materials so that labor, materials and equipment are on site when they are needed and work can continue on schedule. Our trade contractors are carefully selected and supervised to ensure that each operates cooperatively and seamlessly as part of the project’s construction team.

Alten Construction is unique in the industry because we have dedicated teams of professionals that allow us to self-perform many of the activities that other general contractors must outsource.

Our specialized teams of experts allow us to complete many of the construction tasks ourselves, including:

  • Demolition
  • Concrete
  • Masonry
  • Rough Carpentry
  • Finish Carpentry
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Implementation, Monitoring and Recording

During construction, you can count on Alten Construction’s team to handle all relevant compliance requirements. We proactively identify regulatory requirements and handle all compliance related tasks. Alten ensures that every project we undertake is fully compliant with all regulations.

Safety Focused

We ensure that all our team members are properly trained in safety procedures, including the equipment being used, OSHA safety requirements, and everyday safety procedures. At the beginning of each day on every jobsite we begin the day discussing safety, and reiterate it throughout the year with weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual meetings that focus on safety procedures. Every person on our team understands that it is their responsibility to immediately notify and correct any unsafe practice or situation that they may see during their daily routine. In this way, we ensure that everyone comes home safe and sound at the end of each day.

Our excellent EMR rating of 0.66 reflects our dedication to safety. We continue to work each day to make that score even better, because ultimately the EMR is not just a number. It’s a reflection of how diligent we have been in ensuring that we have the safest working environment possible. We never stop promoting safety, because in the end it is our employees and their families that benefit from our safe practices.

Another important part of ensuring project safety is making sure that the jobsite is secured 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We fence off the site and install surveillance and infrared cameras to ensure the safety and security of the site even when work isn’t currently being performed.

A Personal Touch

Our President and CEO, Bob Alten, personally visits each project under construction, working directly with the project executive, project manager and superintendent to ensure that we achieve the same high quality results on every project we undertake. When you work with Alten Construction, you can be assured that your project will have the highest visibility within our organization.
