Vacaville, Calif. - Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, is halfway through the construction for Will C. Wood High School’s new high school football stadium with multi-use track and field.
The $14 million project began in May 2017 and is slated to wrap up in January 2018. The stadium and multi-use track and field will be used for football games, soccer matches and track and field events.
The stadium will boast a new ceiling-mounted projector, turf field, ticket booth, locker rooms, concessions, press box and an accessible ramp that will be adorned with donor-purchased wall tiles. Its new bleacher grandstands with amphitheater-style seating will hold 4,000 fans.
“We are pleased and excited by the progression of Wildcat stadium,” said Dan Banowetz, the facilities director for the Vacaville Unified School District. “Alten Construction has been great to work with and has kept the project on track. The community has been paying close attention to pictures and video updates because the stadium means so much. After all these years, Will C. Wood will finally have a home field for athletics and graduation ceremonies. It’s a big deal for Vacaville Unified, and we are so grateful that Measure A made it possible.”
In 2007-08, Will C. Wood High School began a three-phase modernization process. The Measure V Bond initiative, which passed in 2003, funded the $35 million project. The first phase included a new lower field complex that improved its physical education facility.
The second phase included the addition of the school’s state-of-the-art, two-story science wing, adding much-needed classroom space. The third phase included many upgrades to the school’s quad, administration building, all of the remaining classroom wings, two locker rooms, the small gym, the gym foyer and improvement of the technology infrastructure.
Located at 998 Marshall Road in Vacaville, Will C. Wood first opened its doors in September 1969. The school is a collaborative learning community of students, staff and families.
