Every employee at Alten Construction has their own story of how they came to join the commercial construction company, but there’s a common thread that keeps them there long term: co-owners Bob and Shannon Alten. Their genuine interest in the well-being of their workers and the strong, family-oriented culture they’ve built over nearly three decades is at the heart of what makes Alten Construction unique.
It’s not just about building great structures, but also about building a great place to work; a place where company values and overall morale is important. That’s something Randall Barbour, a long-time employee, has experienced firsthand.
Randall started as an intern back in 2007, eager to learn the ropes of commercial construction from seasoned project managers and superintendents. After completing his internship, he transitioned into the role of project engineer, a position he held until 2019 until he felt the need to explore other career paths.
However, it didn’t take long for Randall to feel the pull of Alten Construction once again. He quickly realized he missed the loyalty, trust and camaraderie that he had developed over the years, as well as how much Alten Construction valued its core principles.
Since returning earlier this year, Randall has noticed an impressive amount of repeat work and long-lasting relationships with clients, and is grateful for the reliability and job security this brings for his future career in the industry.
From start to finish, working at Alten Construction has been a rewarding experience for him. One of Randall’s favorite things about his job is the satisfaction of creating buildings and structures that serve the community and enrich people’s lives, and the challenges he faces on the job is matched by a sense of accomplishment he feels when a project is completed.
Outside of work, Randall enjoys staying active by hiking, running, or weight training. His time off is often spent with his family exploring parks, attending swim lessons or simply playing trucks and watching Paw Patrol. When he’s not busy with family life, you’ll likely find him on the basketball court, either playing or cheering on his favorite team.
