Preparing the next generation of construction professionals takes more than classroom instruction, it takes meaningful, hands-on experience. That's why each summer, Alten Construction welcomes a select group of interns to work alongside our teams in the field and in the office, giving them the opportunity to see firsthand what it takes to bring complex projects to life.
Our internship program is designed to be more than a summer job. From day one, interns are immersed in active projects with experienced professionals to help expand their technical knowledge while developing the communication and problem-solving skills that are essential in the construction industry. Whether they're visiting jobsites or assisting with project coordination, every opportunity is intended to help bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world.
Beyond the experience they gain, our interns bring fresh perspectives, curiosity and enthusiasm that strengthens our teams. Investing in emerging talent isn't simply about supporting students, it's about helping shape the future of our industry while continuing to foster the collaborative culture that defines Alten Construction.
Gwyneth (Gwen) Parker-Wong
Incoming Senior at Chico State majoring in construction management
Q: What's been your favorite part of this internship so far?
A: My favorite part of my internship so far has been working with Sam. He’s really good at what he does, and I hope to learn as much as possible from him.
Q: What do you hope to take away from this internship?
A: I hope to gain exposure to many different aspects of the field so I can better understand how everything connects. Most importantly, I want to build confidence in my skills and become more comfortable advocating for myself as a woman in a male-dominated industry
Q: What's been the most challenging part of this internship so far?
A: The most challenging part has been getting up to speed with new tools and systems so quickly. There’s been a steep learning curve, but it’s also been really rewarding because I can see how much I’ve improved in a short time and how I’m applying what I’ve learned.
Cian Butler - Project Engineer Intern

Q: What has been your favorite part of this internship so far?
A: Bettering my understanding of the flow of construction projects.
Q: What do you hope to take away from this internship?
A: Deepen my understanding of the role of a project engineer while learning construction terms and communicating with the owner and architect.
Q: What's been the most challenging part of this internship so far?
A: Learning construction terms and understanding new programs within the project scope.
Faith Dunn - Office Administrator Intern
Incoming Junior at San Diego State University majoring in television, film and new media studies, with an emphasis in production.
Q: What's been your favorite part of this internship so far?
A: My favorite part of this internship so far has been the community that has been built here. There are never too many questions asked or wrong answers said. I feel confident in an environment/workspace I am not entirely familiar with. The love and support encourage me to reach for more and ensure I understand every aspect so that in the future I may use this knowledge in the art department where lots of projects take place.
Q: What do you hope to take away from this internship?
A: From this internship I hope to take away things such as the complexity of working with data and communicating with those who contribute to our jobs. As someone who wishes to work with the physical aspects of film, understanding what goes into Alten's Projects is expanding my knowledge and appreciation for those who create.
Q: What's been the most challenging part of this internship so far?
A: The most challenging part of this internship has been understanding how each website/software works. In the future I can imagine I will need to use platforms similar to Procore and Trustlayer so expanding my understanding through these sites will benefit me in pre-production and production on sets.

A: Watching how quickly things can change on a project.
Q: What do you hope to take away from this internship?
A: Not only a better understanding of construction processes, but also a better knowledge of how to communicate with people on the job site.

A: Adapting to all the changes that happen daily on the job.
