Our team recently began the remodel and modernization of Hogan Middle School, part of the Vallejo City Unified School District. The $20 million modernization project includes new roofs, HVAC systems, extensive site work, landscaping, new basketball courts and new lockers.

More than two decades ago, Alten Construction began with humble beginnings and big challenges. This year, the commercial construction company celebrates its 25-year anniversary, marking a milestone that commemorates quality construction projects and service to the California community.
This month, Alten Construction completed construction on the City of San Rafael Public Safety Center, the largest public works contract to date for the city. The Public Safety Center houses the San Rafael Police Department, San Rafael Fire Department, the new Fire Station 51 and all associated offices and support.
Alten Construction recently began the modernization of Burlingame Intermediate School, a highly rated sixth-grade through eighth-grade public school.
The renovation includes remodeling a music room, auditorium restrooms, outdoor learning areas, walkways and paths of travel between classroom buildings and 5 classroom buildings with 20 classrooms, totaling 35,000 square feet. Alten Construction is working closely with Hamilton and Aitken Architects.
Alten Construction recently began working on an $8.05 million renovation to St. Anselm Hall on the campus of Marin Catholic High School.
Alten Construction began demolition of the 17,733-square-foot, two-story building and started working on the new construction phase. The classroom portion of the project is expected to be completed in time for the start of school with the remainder of the building slated for completion in September 2020.

Alten Construction recently completed construction on an addition to Albany High School.
Located in the center of the high school, the new 10,231-square-feet addition comprises a pair of two-story buildings, which includes a classroom building and an administration building with a multipurpose space. A breezeway and a second-floor balcony connect the two buildings.
Alten Construction recently broke ground on an addition to Belvedere-Tiburon Library.
Alten Construction began the expansion project in November 2019 and is expected to complete the project in March 2021. Designed by EHDD Architecture and Brown Reynolds Watford Architects, Inc., the project will be completed in phases, allowing the library to remain open throughout most of the construction period.

Simon began his career at Alten Construction as a carpenter. Since that time, he has become an expert in rough carpentry and in building framing. Simon also has extensive experience as a carpenter, foreman and superintendent to each project he runs.

Alten Construction recently broke ground on Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) Station 70.
The new $9.778 million fire station will be named the Captain Matthew Burton and Engineer Scott Desmond Memorial Station in honor of the two fallen Con Fire firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on July 21, 2007 while attempting to rescue two elderly residents trapped in a burning home on nearby Michelle Drive. Once complete, the new station will serve as a standing memorial to their sacrifice.

Alten Construction recently completed a $16 million seismic improvement for Fire Station No. 5. Alten Construction began working on the new 21,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fire station in April 2017, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on May 1, 2019 to commemorate its completion. The project included the demolition of the existing building and construction of a new seismically safe three-story fire station with new building and life safety systems, ADA accessibility and other related improvements.
Allen Construction has broken ground on San Rafael High School's Madrone-Admin-Cafeteria-Kitchen (MACK) building project.
The construction company began preconstruction activities on the $29 million project, including site evaluation, surveys and set up, in December 2018 before breaking ground in March 2019. The 43,000-square-foot project is expected to take 17 months to complete and will open sometime during the 2020-21 school year.

In August 2018, KIPP Bridge Academy, a transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade public charter school that is free and open to all students, officially unveiled its new 17,000-square-foot upper school classroom, administration and cafeteria building.

Alten Construction recently wrapped up construction on the Henry M. Gunn High School’s Central Building project.
Alten Construction began working on the $21 million project, which consisted of a new two-story central building and the upgrade and modernization of the existing Spangenberg Theatre, in May 2017. The school’s music building and old library were demolished prior to the start of construction, and the 39,000-square-foot project was finished in February 2019.
Alten Construction recently began construction on an addition to Albany High School.
The Albany High School addition is a design-build, and Alten Construction has been involved with the project since early 2018. With a design-build delivery method project, the designer and the contractor work together as a team from the beginning, providing joint project recommendations. In addition to saving time and money, design-build projects allow for additional innovation and collaboration.
Alten Construction recently finished renovations to San Rafael Fire Department Station 52.
Alten Construction began working on the $10.6 million renovation project, located at 210 Third St. in San Rafael, in June 2017 and wrapped up the project in February 2019. The project includes three buildings: a 10,973-square-foot, two-story fire station, a 1,297-square-foot training classroom and a 1,342-square-foot pre-engineered, state-of-the-art five-story training tower, which includes props for fire drills and training.
Alten Construction recently finished construction on the historic Napa County Courthouse.
Construction on the $13 million project began in September 2017 and was wrapped up in January 2019. The facility had been closed since August 2014 following the South Napa Earthquake, which caused extensive damage to the historic courthouse. A grand reopening ceremony for the newly restored courthouse was held Jan. 22, 2019.

Alten Construction completed the modernization of Paden Elementary School in the Alameda Unified School District.
Alten Construction started the project June 11 and completed it in time for school to resume Aug. 20. The $3.29 million project included a complete window replacement, an AV data electrical upgrade and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility upgrades. The architect on the project was Mark Quattrocchi with Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA).

San Jose City College students looking to explore a career in health and fitness now have a new facility to help support them on their educational journey.
In January 2018, the college officially unveiled its new 39,000-square-foot, two-story gymnasium building. San Jose City College teamed up with Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area construction company, in March 2016, on the $17.5 million project.

Roseland University Prep isn’t your typical high school.
With interior wood paneling, floor-to-ceiling windows and high-end finishes, Roseland University Prep in Santa Rosa, Calif. is more reminiscent of an upscale restaurant in downtown San Francisco than a high school.
The charter school, which was completed in November 2017 and is home to about 450 students, was built using high-end design elements. A particular emphasis was placed on carpentry, clean lines and the use of natural light that can be seen throughout the 30,000-square foot facility's interior.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently completed a new fire alarm system installation at Lawrence E. Jones Middle School.
Alten Construction started the project June 4 and finished the project by the time school resumed Aug. 14. The $1.67 million project included demolition and removal of the existing fire alarm system and the installation of a new fire alarm system, which includes smoke and heat detectors, for 13 buildings within the middle school.
Alex Adams isn’t afraid of a little hard work.

That dedication and desire to take on additional tasks helped the former Alten Construction intern land a full-time position with the company as a project engineer in May 2018.
RICHMOND, Calif. – The historic headquarters of Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently received a Historic Preservation Award by the Richmond Historic Preservation Commission and the National Park Service for its adaptive reuse of the former National Oil Products factory.
Alten Construction completed the 70-year-old factory in the Marina Bay industrial area in August 2017. Bob Alten, founder and CEO of Alten Construction, partnered with architect Andrew Butt and landscape architect JC Miller Studio to refurbish the building, which was built in 1946 by vitamin manufacturer and also housed a lighting factory.

The new stadium and multi-use track and field will be used for football games, soccer matches and track and field events. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the occasion on May 3 to unveil it. Faculty, students, district officials and members of the community filled the stadium’s field and stands during the event.

The San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, has been awarded the contract to build the new $35 million San Rafael Public Safety Center and began construction this month.
Slated for completion in 2020, the 44,000-square-foot building will house police, fire and administrative facilities.
“Facilities like these are unique,” said Bob Alten, president and co-founder of Alten Construction, of the combined facilities. “It’s a project you do not see very often, and we were excited to be selected to help build this for the area. We started our business in San Rafael, and we live in San Rafael. We feel like we’re doing something for the community.”

KIPP Bridge Academy has educated students in West Oakland since its founding in 2002 and is now expanding to serve more students, adding to the one building that is currently on its campus.

Alten Construction repaired the 2014 earthquake damage to the 5,433-square-foot building built in 1901. The project, which began in April 2017, is being nominated for the Project of the Year Award through the American Public Works Association (APWA).
During the more than $1.7 million project, the construction installed a new roof, repaired and reinforced timber roof trusses, fixed damaged terra cotta entry columns and the entry doorway arch and restored and repaired interior wood trim, lath and plaster walls and dislodged interior metal tin ceiling tiles and trim.

The $14 million project began in May 2017 and is slated to wrap up in January 2018. The stadium and multi-use track and field will be used for football games, soccer matches and track and field events.
The stadium will boast a new ceiling-mounted projector, turf field, ticket booth, locker rooms, concessions, press box and an accessible ramp that will be adorned with donor-purchased wall tiles. Its new bleacher grandstands with amphitheater-style seating will hold 4,000 fans.

The $11.6 million project, which began last month, will repair the courthouse damage caused by the Aug. 24 south Napa earthquake. The work will also include the 16,000-square-foot courthouse historical renovation, a structural retrofit and new restrooms.
The 18,000-square-foot structure consists of an 1878 historical building that has been unoccupied since the earthquake. An addition was later built and is still in service for the County Court.
It took seven years of searching, but Bob Alten finally found the perfect location for the new Alten Construction headquarters — a spot in Richmond’s historic waterfront industrial district just two miles away from his company’s former office. The only problem with the proposed “new” HQ? The property’s very old building.
Alten collaborated with architect Andrew Butt on the renovation, a yearlong project that involved extensive repair and historic salvage as well as creative design and masterful execution. Ultimately, the team was able to reveal and celebrate the gem of a structure that lay under decades of neglect and decay.
