Jefferson Elementary School

Alten Construction worked with HKIT Architects and the Oakland Unified School District to construct a new two-story multiuse and administration building for Jefferson Elementary School in Oakland. The project involved both the new building and upgrades to the existing campus. During the summer, the existing fire alarm system and the existing mechanical controls were updated; a new, wet suppression fire system was added to an existing kitchen hood; and ADA compliance work and minor renovations were performed for the existing buildings. Construction of the new, two-story building included subgrade waterproofing, utilities and paving, a concrete foundation, wood framing and structural steel, a metal roof with an integrated photovoltaic system, a new elevator, aluminum storefronts, a new fire sprinkler system, a new mechanical system and a new fire alarm system. Around the new building, Alten Construction placed new sidewalks, landscaping, flatwork, retaining walls, ramps, handrails, asphalt paving, drilled piers, resilient paving, site furnishings and play structures.
