During the summer of 2013, Alten Construction collaborated with Larkspur-Corte Madera School District and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects to renovate the Neil Cummins Elementary School campus in Corte Madera. There was extensive work performed, requiring long shifts and seven-day work weeks. Three classroom buildings were abated and gutted; and nine, new intermediate classrooms were added, necessitating new concrete foundations and wood framing. Further, extensive structural modifications were made as well as plumbing, mechanical and electrical improvements. The new structural work required significant, exterior plastering, and all three classroom buildings—inside and outside—received a new coat of paint. New exterior doors and frames were installed; and new aluminum sliding doors were installed at the nine, new intermediate classrooms. The site was also developed, including new site utilities, irrigation and planting, concrete paving and precast seat walls and modified play areas.
